Established in 1991 Leader Search Inc. is an American (Scottsdale) and a Canadian (Calgary) based group of search professionals and leadership coaches founded on President Bob Johnson's professional philosophy that "there is a right person for every corporate culture and a right corporate culture for every person. Leader Search's well developed relationships with their clients allows them to develop leaders within the organization as well as search for new leaders outside of the company. Executive and staff searches ensure the right candidate for the right environment, with the appropriate technical skills. Leadership coaching services help people in any part of an organization work more effectively. The nature of executive and leadership coaching varies somewhat depending on the client and their situation. At Leader Search their approach is highly customized. They collaborate with their clients to identify their specific organizational and leadership development needs and then design a program that will address those needs. While each assignment they take on is unique there are three categories that they use to help define what coaching might look like for a client. Executive Coaching: Executive coaching generally involves providing one-on-one consultation with senior executives and/or team coaching of an officers group. Typically they are able to provide these leaders with: - Independent and objective perspective on issues.
- Assistance in generating creative solutions or alternative courses of action.
- Identification of potential consequences.
- Sharing of ideas from other similar situations.
- Feedback on their own performance and how to enhance their capacity for leadership.
Management and Leadership Development Coaching: It is a common practice in organizations to take the best technical people and move them into managerial roles. However, these individuals seldom come with much, if any, experience in managing and leading others. Leader Search's role in coaching these emerging leaders is: - To fast-track the development of their management and leadership skills.
- To help them understand the nature of management and leadership work.
- To assist them in dealing with difficult issues as they emerge.
Situational or Intervention Coaching: Leader Search is often called upon by clients to provide direct managerial and leadership coaching for individuals, business units or divisions facing unique or persistent problems. Naturally, this type of coaching involves the greatest diversity of issues and is, arguably, the most challenging. The nature of the situations range from divisive conflict among employees through to pervasive complacency, and from a leadership vacuum to smothering micro- management or, perhaps, an acquisition or merger has created a clash of cultures. Whatever the case, there is a recognition at a senior level that the situation is placing the company at some risk. Leader Search's approach with these assignments is as varied as the situations themselves. However, there are some themes that tend to be very common: - The need to establish strategic alignment among individuals, work units and the company.
- The need to create clarity regarding the purpose and objectives of the work units.
- The need to establish agreement on best practices.
- The need to assess operational systems and processes.
- The need to establish agreement on performance and production targets.
