Initially, leads were generated by a direct mail campaign from tourist requested information from the various convention and visitor bureau's throughout the state. In 1997, the Tourist Bureau launched it's web site: www.arizonatourism.com  . Within three months all other forms of lead source generation were abandoned. In three years, gross reservations have gone from 1.3 million the 1st year to 4.5 million last year. In addition, the Tourist Bureau has expanded it's market to San Diego, Las Vegas and Florida. Recently, the Tourist Bureau set up an associate program similar to Amazon.com. Where customers directed to our site from other internet sites are tracked by an agent ID number. If this customer, reserves a hotel room or car rental, the Tourist Bureau will pay a commission to the site where the customer was referred. I've known Mr. Bertenshaw since 1994 and he is a very innovative marketer. I have been impressed by his many unique ideas and creative thinking. He very quickly grasped the marketing possibilities the internet presented and has gone on to use the internet very successfully.
