Vanessa Florez found her way to the Soiree a
few weeks back
and we arranged for her to sing during Don Kirchner's book
signing Soiree. The feed back was immediate and highly positive.
Where did you find that singer? She's terrific were common
remarks. Being beautiful and talented
must be a heavy burden
but Vanessa is light and up beat and just a
joy to be around and
listen
to.
Born in Tucson, Vanessa is a native Arizonan
who started singing,
song writing, and doing musicals at the age of 10! She has
performed in school productions as well as for the Arizona Theatre
Company. She attended Catalina High
School in Tucson and
sang in the jazz and concert choir as well as
the regional and state
choirs. She also sang the National
Anthem for her high school
and for the Universtiy of
Arizona games. In Vanessa's senior
year of High School she started a musical group called, "The
Outback Singers". They were five
singers and a keyboardist
and
performed at the resorts in Tucson during the Holiday.
Following High School Vanessa was granted a
full scholarship
to sing in the Northern Arizona University program but instead,
pursued and received her Bachelor of Science
in Business
Administration/Marketing from the
University of Arizona.
After graduation she moved to
Phoenix and worked full time
mainly in pharmaceutical sales.
Still holding a passion for singing,
Vanessa formed a band
and performed at the national meetings
of her pharmaceutical company.
In
1998, she moved to
Northern
California and spent 3 years
as
the lead singer for the band "On
the Vine". They did mostly jazz, R&B, and pop songs by Sade,
Vanessa Williams,
Anita Baker, and Dianna Krall.
Vanessa moved back to Arizona in
December of 2000 and began
to work with musician,
Josh
Motley on her
first CD, "TIME". Her
CD is in the genre of Sade, Dido or
Sarah McLaughlin. She took
her CD to the International
Modeling and Talent Association convention
in New York in July of 2001 and the
hotel hosting the
convention
mixed in her CD with their
tracks. She is now looking
to sing and
write full time with a group of
serious musicians and may soon be
opening for the Thursday night music
series at El Pedregal.
It is with great pleasure
that, the lovely and
talented Vanessa
Florez, will be my
Special Guest
this week.
Please plan on joining us to socialize and meet new friends!
