Well we could be next if Paul Johnson, James Ashley and their non-profit organization, Minor Planet Research (MPR) fail at their mission. MPR is dedicated to the search for, orbital measurement of, and physical studies of, Near Earth Objects (NEOs). NEOs are asteroids or comets that pose a potential collision hazard with Earth by virtue of their mass, velocity, and orbital paths through space. We are talking extinction here folks! To fund this most noble of all research projects MPR is searching for more than NEO's. They are actively seeking seed capital and private and corporate sponsors in an effort to raise funds to build the world's largest telescope dedicated solely to the discovery of NEOs!
