Markus Schulz, born and raised in Germany, moved to America with
his family at age 13. He has been spinning since 1984, evolving
from playing Hip-Hop at breakdance parties in Boston in the 80's,
to playing underground house in the gay clubs of Phoenix in the
early 90's. In 1992 Markus became the resident of the legendary
venue "The Works" in Scottsdale. He played there from opening night
until the very last night in Oct. 1998. During this time he also
was courted by a radio station to bring the vibe of this exciting
new sound to the airwaves. His radio show, "The Edge Factor" began
in 1993 and has been internationally syndicated on over 146 stations
world wide and is still running today on KEDJ (106.3 The Edge) Phoenix.
Being from Germany, Markus has always had a taste for the progressive,
harder music. Even during his hip-hop parties in the 80's, you could
hear him playing stuff from Kraftwerk, Man Parrish & Yellow Magic
Orchestra. He has been credited for pioneering the trance scene
in the Southwest. His residency at "The Works" averaged over 5,000
people per weekend, and his radio show has captured the imagination
of listeners all over the world.
Markus Schulz has also been busy in the studio. In 1994 he found
international success when he released "The Journey" on 5X0-294
(A DMC label). "The Journey" was a huge record overseas, and saw
Sasha, playing it all over the globe. Labels from Europe started
calling for remixes, and along with studio partner C.L. McSpadden
under the moniker "Edge Factor", gave their touch to releases by
Blue Amazon "No Other Love", "And Then The Rain Falls" Raissa "Your
Summertime" , Sunday Club "Paladian Dawn" B.T. "Remember", Bedrock
"For What You Dream Of", as well as "Lost Without You" by Jaynne
Hanna which has just been re-released because of it's appearance
on Sasha & Digweed's "Northern Exposure-Expeditions" CD. He has
also done remixes for domestic labels: "Hello" by Poe, "Love Don't
Live Here Anymore" by Madonna, "Templehead" by Transglobal Underground,
just to name a few.
Markus has moved on to run his own label, (Plastik Records) and
record shop of the same name. They are set to make some noise this
summer with releases by Dakota "Swirl" (Featuring remixes by Terry
Lee Brown Jr.), "Himmel" by Himmel and "U Can Get It" by Markus
Schulz (With C.L.M remixes). Plastik Records has also collaborated
with Safari Media (A multi media corp.) and is actively producing
music for web pages, as well as computer games. Markus is set to
embark on another DJ tour this summer (Ibiza, Frankfurt, Kassel,
San Francisco, Orlando, St.Louis, Atlanta, Los Angeles). Make sure
you go check him out!
I've known Markus for about six years and there is something about
his music that just grabs you and won't let go. His style is distinctive
and I can tell right away if music I'm listening to was mixed by
Markus. Super stars of the music world now seek him out such as
Madonna, Grace Jones, the Beastie Boys, Bette Middler, and Elton
John. Markus is recognized by the best in the music world as a true
artist.
It is with great pleasure that Mr. Markus Schulz, Internationally
Syndicated D.J. (The Edge Factor) and Owner of Plastik Records will
be my Special Guest this week. Please plan on joining us to socialize
and meet new friends! Thanks
