Echo, a Gray Wolf, born on April 28, 1994, and came to the park at only a few months of age. The alpha male of a wolf pack dictates where to hunt, where to live and who can mate. Social status within the pack is expressed by a complex language of gestures, barks, and growls. The tail is a sign of leadership the alpha male always has is tail higher than any other member the pack. Wolves hunt in a pack in order to bring down prey much larger than a lone wolf could handle. Echo is the alpha male of this pack and is a great leader.

Anika, a female Arctic wolf, was born April 16, 1994. Anika is the alpha female and in charge of the department of play and is always the first to make new friends. Females can give birth to as many as 14 pups, but the average is 4-7. Wolves are known more for their endurance, rather than their top speed. A wolf can keep up a steady lope of 15 to 20 MPH all night long if needed.
