Tom Manno is a very tough act to
follow and serves as an
inspiration to us mere mortals simply trying to keep our
New Years Resolutions!
Born in 1958, in Rochester, NY, Tom Manno weighed in at
7 lbs., 4 oz.. Tom appeared to be a healthy boy until at 2 years
old he was diagnosed with spinal meningitis compounded by
frequently occurring epileptic seizures. Doctors told Tom's
family that he would never be healthy and would always be
tiny and weak.
During his high school years Tom played football. He made All
State, and was named to the All American High School roster.
He became Arizona State champion in the shot put and the state
heavy-weight wrestling champion.
Tom went on to play football at the University of Arizona where
he got the rare opportunity to train with the renowned strongman
Bruce Wilhelm. Bruce was an Olympian in weight lifting, and two
time winner of the "World's Strongest Man" competition. He
encouraged Tom to unleash his full potential and become the
"best he could be!" .
In 1981 Tom played pro ball for the Dallas Cowboys and later
he signed with Tampa Bay USFL team. Later, he decided to
specialize on the bench press.
At 6'3 1/2" and 308 lbs., Tom turned 44 this year. To date...
Tom is the current Multi-World Record Holder Bench Press
at 678lbs. (WPO) 2001. He is Undefeated in Over 65 Consecutive
Bench Press Competitions and holds 58 World Records, 87
American Records, 12 State, and 16 National & 15 World
Championships.
