Born in Jamaica, West Indies in 1962, Courtney Dyer came to the
United States in 1980 and lived in Maryland for nine years before
joining the Army. She spent most of her two years in service stationed
in Korea. Upon her return she attended nursing school and became
a Registered nurse and spent two years in a Post Anesthesia Care Unit
(PACU) before deciding that art was her calling.
In 1994 Courtney wanted to decorate her garden with a rock into which
she would impart (petroglyph) the image of Kokopelli. After a hammer
and screwdriver failed she tried an electric drill with masonry bit but
again was defeated. She then painted the rock and call it a day!
In 1995 she tried her hand at etching glass with etching cream, only
to discover that etching cream could not create the deeply carved
images she had in mind. She sought professional guidance and
was given an article about sandblast etching and a contact for lessons.
Armed with two years of research and experimentation Courtney
founded EtcArt Studio in 1997. EtchArt specializes in stone etching
because stone is directly derived from the earth - is the earth. Stone
is alive and imparts an energy unlike any other natural product.

Many of the designs EtchArt utilizes are interpretations of the art of
ancient indigenous peoples. EtchArt draws on art examples from
caves and rock shelters of Europe, Africa, and The Americas and
especially to the art of the southwestern Native American Indian.
Today EtchArt utilizes many different mediums. You may have
your message custom designed using Stone, Glass Blocks, and
Ceramic or SaltilloTile. Your message may include your address,
name plaques, new birth announcements, pet memorial markers,
business logo, or your favorite design.

Recently EtchArt Studio began receiving requests for etchings
of recognizable Valley mountain ranges such as Pinnacle Peak
and Camelback Mountain. At the July wedding of one of
the Diamondbacks ball players, a flagstone piece (wedding gift)
with the silhouette of Camelback was displayed with positive reactions.
