Grab your oars and head on out to the Soiree for a rowing good time and meet the
members of the Rio Salado Rowing Club.

Formed in 1991, The Rio Salado Rowing Club (RSRC) is the oldest rowing club in
the state. Tempe’s beautiful Town Lake is the club’s home. The two miles long lake
was created in the artificially dry Salt River bed that marks the boarder between Tempe
and Scottsdale.

Members of RSRC row every day of the week. The RSRC offers open rowing for
qualified members and programs for those who want coaching. The water is normally
calm and motor boats are prohibited.  It is an outstanding year round setting for rowing.

The club has 200 members, from Novice to past Olympians. Their membership ranges
from students to retirees.  By joining the RSRC you will be able to participate in one of
the oldest and most cardiovascular beneficial sports.

As a member you will receive:

The opportunity to participate at monthly rows, every second Saturday, which includes
the use of the boats and coaching.

The opportunity, once qualified, to row during the many open times offered a week.

The opportunity to enroll in one of our instructional programs.

The quarterly newsletter, “Rowing Times”.

An invitation to the annual team dinner and other special events.

Discounts on RSRC apparel.

And much, much more!

Novice programs are eight sessions and are for people who have never rowed.
Once completed, you may join the club’s intermediate class.  Intermediate programs
are a fun way to improve your skills and to increase your cardiovascular base. There
are a variety of times and days available.

The sculling clinic, with four time Olympian Iskra Balchev, is great for both beginners
and elites alike. Classes are small and comprehensive.

Open rowing is offered during various times for members who want to row and do not
need instruction. Any available boat may be used. To qualify for open rowing you must
pass a test at one of the second Saturday rows. There is no additional fee, however,
donations to purchase more small boats are welcomed.

The second Saturday of every month the club goes rowing. This is a great time for
someone interested in the group to come and join the fun. Coaches will be available to
teach beginners. September to May we will meet from 7 to 10 AM, the rest of year
6 to 9 AM.  Requirements to row are: membership, float test and a signed waiver.
For open rowing a sufficient skill level, as judged by the facilitator, is also required.

It is with great pleasure that, Mr. Jake Poinier, President and
Mr. Bill Powell, Social Events Coordinator, of The Rio Salado
Rowing Club, will be my Special Guests this week.

Please plan on joining us to socialize and meet new friends!
