Scott
Flansburg, known as the human calculator, is trying his hand ~ and
head ~ at poker. This numbers fanatic played his first World
Series of Poker Main Event at Harrah’s in Las Vegas on July 9th, and will be
at the tables again on Sunday October 23, 2005. The holder of the Guinness World
Record title as the fastest counter, Scott can add a two-digit number to itself
faster than a person can using a calculator. This human calculator also multiplies,
divides, squares, and cubes numbers in his head. “The only thing that keeps me
from going even faster is how fast I can say the answers”, Scott explains. Not
only is he fast, he is one hundred percent accurate.
Both his incredible speed and accuracy will be important skills as he
expands from educating to playing cards. Scott undoubtedly will have an
advantage with such astonishing math skills and numbers aptitude.
For over fifteen years, Scott
has literally shown thousands of people that working with numbers
can be fun. With an alternative math approach, he has taught both
children and adults to overcome anxiety about doing math.
Scott developed a math tutor tool called Math Magic and has written
several math help books.
