Come join us Friday, August 6 for our LA Soiree as we celebrate the launch of our very first Soiree outside of the Phoenix/Scottsdale market place. We will be meeting around the Loews swimming pool located at the back of the hotel adjacent to the beach. Helping us launch is Patrick Bertagna, Founder and CEO of the incredible GTX Corporation. GTX Corporation (www.gtxc.biz) has created a Location-Based Service (LBS) that consists of: a miniaturized tracking device contained in footwear; proprietary software to report the location of the device, and; a network that allows the user to interact with the location device through a secure Internet account or a telephone interface. The device uses a combination of Global Positioning System (GPS) and Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) network protocols. GTX filed a patent with the United States Patent and Trademark Office in September of 2002 for Footwear with GPS. The patent has been allowed and is in the issuing stage. The locator device is inserted in a hollow cavity under the shoes inner sole. It consists of a GPS chipset, a GPS antenna, a GSM modem, a battery, as well as a proprietary firmware chipset, which holds the business rules and logic to make the other devices speak to each other and function properly. A simple example of this would be for the system to query the battery to determine how much power was left and then report a low battery alert via the modem to the GTX database. That alert could trigger the monitoring system to page the user, call them via a computer/telephony gateway, or change the display of a web page. The entire module is self-contained and sealed to protect against dirt, moisture, and vibration, and is moveable from one shoe to another GTX-compatible shoe.
IMPORTANT POINT: GTX allows a customer to predefine a virtual boundary (geo-fence) that triggers an alert if the device leaves that zone. In an effort to obtain immediate market share the company plans to target three segments of the market: children fourteen and under (58 million in the U.S.); the elderly (12 million), and the military (2 million). Everyone wears shoes. A shoe fits seamlessly into lifestyles, and is not likely to be taken off and left behind. GTX plans to soft launch a line of footwear and then license out its technology to other shoe brands already entrenched in niche markets. This enables GTX to leverage its technology business with the brand recognition and drawing power of major shoe companies such as Nike, Reebok, Adidas or Sketchers. In conjunction with selling the GPS module and licensing the interchangeable module to other shoe companies, GTX will provide an Internet monitoring data center service, based on a monthly subscription fee, to allow viewing the GPS data of the person wearing the module. Shoe prices are expected to start around $129 dropping to about $59 within three years. Tracking subscriptions are expected to begin around $15 per month dropping to about $9 per month within three years. Future areas of expansion can include the temporary/rental locator market, the pet market, the correctional services (home arrest) market, and asset location market. All four of these markets use GPS technology in order to enhance their services. In the temporary/rental locator market, GTX has the opportunity to collaborate with amusement parks to allow parents to keep track of their children. In the correctional services market, GTX would serve as an intermediary between four stakeholders: a local home monitoring company or municipality; the regional corrections department and state government; an equipment manufacturer; and the telemetric communication service provider. GTX would act as a B2B partner with the regional home monitoring companies. Finally, in the asset location market, GTX could collaborate with rental car companies who have the need for GPS devices to track their cars.
Technical Information
GPS Background Navstar GPS (as it is known in the U.S.) was designed for and is operated by the U.S. military, but is also used by civilians worldwide. GPS is actually a constellation of 27 earth-orbiting satellites (24 in operation and three as backup). A GPS receiver locates one or more of these satellites, calculates the distance to each, and deduces its own location using a method known as triangulation. To report this location to a third party, such as the GTX headquarters, a separate modem and wireless network are used.
GSM Background
While there are numerous wireless networks available today such as Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) and Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA), GTX has chosen the Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) standard to report the location deduced by the GPS receiver in the shoe. General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) is a packet data overlay on GSM networks that enables always on connections and eliminates repetitive and time-consuming dial-up connections. It also provides real data speeds in excess of 40 kilobits per second (Kbps), which is about the same speed as an excellent landline analog modem connection. GPRS also supports secure data communications via Virtual Private Networks (VPN).
It is with great pleasure that Patrick Bertagna, Founder, Chief Executive Officer, Global Trek Xploration Corporation, will be my Special Guest for our very first LA Soiree! Please plan on joining us to socialize and meet new friends.
